About Duo Voxara

Duo Voxara is a dynamic and versatile classical guitar and mezzo-soprano duo that is dedicated to bringing together the timeless elegance of classical music with the boldness of contemporary composition. With a shared passion for innovation and artistry, Andrea Saposnik and Andrew Marino combine their rich musical training and diverse backgrounds to create captivating performances that resonate with audiences of all tastes.

Andrea and Andrew met shortly after Andrea joined Hoff-Barthelson Music School in 2023, where Andrew was a faculty member. Having already performed Manuel de Falla’s Siete canciones populares españolas with the original piano accompaniment, she asked him if he happened to know the version that had been transcribed for voice and guitar. He was enthusiastic about learning it, and they enjoyed performing together so much that in 2024 they joined forces professionally as Duo Voxara.

The duo’s repertoire spans centuries of music, from the soul-stirring melodies of classical art songs to the innovative soundscapes of contemporary composers. Whether performing beloved classics or premiering new works, Duo Voxara brings a fresh, expressive approach to every piece, emphasizing the interplay between the guitar’s rich tones and the mezzo-soprano’s expressive range. The duo is comfortable in diverse venues, from intimate recitals to formal concerts.

Each performance is an invitation into a world where the beauty of classical tradition meets the excitement of modern creativity. Through their collaborative approach, Andrea and Andrew engage, inspire, and connect with their audiences on a deep emotional level, drawing them in with insightful commentaries and exploring the full spectrum of human experience through music.

Duo Voxara creates an immersive and transcendent musical experience that blends the expressive warmth of the classical guitar with the emotive depth of the mezzo-soprano voice. Our mission is to explore the rich tapestry of classical, contemporary, and world music, offering audiences a unique interpretation of beloved works and lesser-known gems alike.

Through our unique performances, foster a deep emotional connection with listeners, bridging cultures, time periods, and musical traditions. By emphasizing the intimate, dynamic relationship between voice and guitar, we illuminate the timeless beauty of music that speaks to the heart and soul.

Meet Duo Voxara

Andrea Saposnik, mezzo-soprano

Mezzo-soprano Andrea Saposnik savored the pleasures of close musical collaboration when she sang with luminaries like oboist Ronald Roseman of the New York Philharmonic, and violist Lawrence Neuman of the Chicago Symphony, and she is delighted to rekindle the joys of musical partnership with guitarist Andrew Marino in Duo Voxara. Sharing Andrew’s keen interest in performing works by living composers, she also relishes bringing her unique sensibilities to bear on beloved classics.

Andrea has performed extensively in opera, oratorio, musical theater, and recitals, and has recorded for the Sony and Naxos Labels. Her performances include Respighi’s Il Tramonto with string quartet in Arcidosso, Italy, and numerous solo appearances with the Putnam Chorale and the Long Island Choral Society, where she has also served as Artist-in-Residence.  She has been a fellow at the Ravinia Festival and the Bach Aria Festival, and has been a frequent collaborator with members of the Bach Aria Group. A champion of contemporary music, Andrea has performed world premieres of works by Philippe Treuille, James Cowdery, and Meredith Baker. She holds a Doctorate in Voice from the CUNY Graduate Center, a Master’s in Voice from Yale University, a Bachelor’s in Voice from Oberlin Conservatory, and a Bachelor’s in English from Oberlin College.  In addition, Andrea earned certificates from Justin Stoney’s Voice Teacher Training program; Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s Vocal Pedagogy Program; and Shenandoah University’s Contemporary Commercial Music Institute.

Andrea has maintained a private voice studio in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York since 2003, and she joined the faculty of Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, New York in 2023. She has also taught at The Masters School, Broadway Training Center, and Greenwich House Music School. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Andrea is an avid hiker and fitness enthusiast, a certified yoga instructor, and a dedicated advocate for animals.

Andrew Marino, guitar

Guitarist Andrew Marino is always looking for opportunities to perform in dynamic and unique chamber groups. Although not a Spanish-speaker himself, as a guitarist, Andrew is excited to bring Spanish-language classical repertoire for guitar, the instrument most associated with Spanish music, to audiences. He’s also a proponent of giving voices to living composers, and to that end he truly enjoys performing music by, and collaborating with, composers of our time.

Andrew holds both a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in guitar performance and a Master of Music degree in guitar performance and pedagogy from the Peabody Conservatory, a Bachelor of Music degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam, and has done substantial classical guitar studies with Jeremy Sparks of the Buffalo Guitar Quartet. Outside of Duo Voxara, Andrew frequently performs with his wife, pianist Jessica Marino, as the Marino Duo. Andrew has performed with chamber groups at concert series including performances for the Classical Guitar Society of Upstate New York, the International Day of Latin American and Iberian Art Song run by Patricia Caicedo, the Guitar Foundation of America’s Regional Symposium in New York City, the Sowebo Arts and Music Festival, and the Union Square Chamber Music Series in Baltimore, MD. He has also won prizes in both solo and chamber music competitions including Appalachian State University’s GuitarFest solo competition and the Crane School of Music’s chamber music competition. Andrew has performed as a soloist in master classes for Benjamin Verdery, Johannes Möller, Stephen Aron, Stanley Yates, and Jason Vieaux.

Andrew is a devoted teacher, currently serving on the faculties of Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, New York and Greenwich Suzuki Academy. He enjoys lecturing on guitar pedagogy and history. He has given notable lectures at the Guitar Foundation of America’s 2023 International Convention and Competition, the 2022 New York State Music Teachers Association State Convention, as well as lectures at the Peabody Conservatory and SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music.
